Petzold's Marine Center

"Here is the nicest bunch of people you would ever want to meet." This I heard from another Petzold's customer, just this morning. This fellow recently had a major reconstruction of some rotted cockpit decks in his Tiara. "They seem to run a real top shelf operation" was another comment from a friend, who purchased a 35 Silverton from Petzold's, last fall. Well, I couldn't agree with those sentiments more. The whole crew has been especially courteous, accommodating, and responsive. With a focus on customer service, it is easy to see why the have been around so long. It's family run business that's been selling and fixing boats for sixty years, in Portland, Connecticut.

We purchased Stella Blue from Fred Brown, of Petzold's Marine Center, in October 2003. Fred was great to work with! He gave us a great deal on Stella Blue. It's nice to work with a salesperson that has the confidence to make the deal without having to run back and forth to check with the manager. He set us up with the best financing and insurance which was also a big help. Of course, you have to get a second quote when spending this much money, but that just confirmed that Petzold's was the right place to buy.

Duane Shepard, of the Petzold'z Canvas Shop designed and fabricated the flybridge enclosure and front window privacy covering. Duane took great care to present our options of color and material. He was very patient, cutting swatches for us to compare and answering our questions. I have seen many canvas jobs over the years and I can say that his work is some of the best I've seen.

Bob Petzold, runs the yard and has been really great to work with. I wanted to launch the boat very early in the season, and he made sure the canvas work and commissioning went right on schedule. There were a few items that needed to come from Mainship, and what didn't make it on time, he took off another, in stock boat. I felt that the factory radar mast was too short, so he had a custom built riser fabricated at no charge to me. What more could you ask for!

Of course with a new boat, there is always a lot of little kinks to work out, and this was a first year of a new design. Through out the season as these little kinks popped up, Scott Henne was the man in the service department. The boat is berthed about sixty miles from the dealer, so it was no short trip to take care of things, but Scott always made it happen.

Oh, and don't forget the ships store. If you winter your boat up the Connecticut River, this is a very convenient place to to get all your commissioning / decommissioning supplies. They may not have the inventory that the big chain stores have, but they will get most items in a day or two, and the pricing is usually better.

We chose to do our winter storage at Petzold's also. Their rates are competitive, the yard is clean and secure. And, when it's time to haul and launch, they have the proper, and modern, equipment to haul large boats. They are real professionals and I don't have worry about if the boat is going to banged up at hauling time.

Although the relationship between various boat builders and their dealers differs quite a lot, your dealer is going to be your conduit to getting warrantee work done. Petzold's sells a lot of Mainships and is one of the oldest Mainship dealers in the country. They have been great in presenting my concerns for warrantee work and bringing about a successful resolution. Petzold's is a great place to buy a Mainship and I highly recommend them to anyone.
