After hearing some positive reports on Petit Hydrocoat, I decided to switch from the interlux paint I had been using. I wanted to see what the bottom lloked like and also wanted to repair any flaking I had with the bottom paint. I had the bottom completely walnut shell blasted. This removes all the ablative bottom paint but doesn't impact the gelcoat at all. As such it leaves some shadow of the paint on the bottom and does not degloss the gelcoat.
The reason I was having some flaking issues is because Mainship does not sand the bottoms before applying bottom paint at the factory. From there I completely sanded the bottom to degloss. I also faired the bowthruster to the manufacturer recommendations. Mainship does not take the time to do this, which causes poor thruster performance.
I applied 3 coats of Petit epoxy barriercoat followed by 2 coats of Petit Hydrocoat.
