House Plumbing

  • Empty and flush holding tank. Intermediate flush with half gallon of bleach with 3-4 gallons fresh water. Final flush with 5 gallons fresh water, and pump out. Do while boat is in water and pumpouts are available. Turn off water to head on main distribution manifold. Run two to three gallons of non-toxic antifreeze through head and vacuflush tank. Leave in holding tank for winter.
  • Turn off hot water heater.
  • Run fresh water pumps and open faucets to drain all water.
  • Drain hot water heater using water hose on drain to forward bilge. Bypass hot water by disconnecting hot and cold lines from tank and connecting to each other using a spare connector.
  • Disconnect port side water tank line at tank (leave tank open to drain), and attach spare piece of water pipe to the feed line using one of the elbows, so the cold water feed line can reach into the bottom of a 3-5 gallon bucket. Add 3 gallons of non-toxic antifreeze to bucket. Remove the feed line from the starboard tank This fitting is a three way type with one side running to the port tank. Plug the opening in the line using a plug, but leave the tank open to drain.
  • Start the fresh water pump to draw from the bucket of antifreeze. Open the feed to the head on the main distribution manifold and run the head sink faucet hot and cold until antifreeze flows on both.
  • Run shower as above.
  • Run a gallon of antifreeze through the shower drain to protect the shower pump.
  • Run galley sink as above.
  • Run summer kitchen faucet as above.
  • Remove ice from ice maker freezer and prop door open for winter.
  • Run freshwater washdown faucets.
  • Defrost, clean out, and wash refridgerator / freezer. Leave doors open to thoroughly dry.

Air Conditioners and Raw Water Wash Down

  • Close ball valve and drain seawater strainer. Pull hose off strainer (pump side) and stick in bucket of non-toxic antifreeze. Run system until pink flows at both outlets.
  • Run raw water faucets until pink. (Stellablue has a raw water pump feed, plumbed to the A/C intake.)
  • Reconnect the hose to the ball valve and run the raw water punp to suck the antifreeze from the A/C system or blow out remaining antifreeze with compressed air. This will allow the system to self prime when recommissioning. Reattach hose to ball valve and tighten clamps if not done in the previous step.
  • Wipe up any spilled liquid.

Genset

  • Close seawater intake ball valve. Drain raw water strainer. Replace plug.
  • Disconnect the hose from the ball valve and stick in bucket of antifreeze. Start engine and run 2 gallons of antifreeze through engine to purge all water from engine.
  • Drain muffler of diluted antifreeze.

Engine Room

Do this step after boat is hauled.

Tools to take with you:

7/8 wrench - intercooler zinc
11/16 wrench - oil cooler & heat exchanger zincs
9/16 wrench - genset zincs
straight blade screwdriver - water pump impeller plate

  • Drain intercooler, and oil cooler. Remove intercooler and oil cooler zinc plugs.
  • Drain heat exchanger, and remove zincs (2).
  • Remove water pump backing plate on even years to drain water, and remove pump complete for impeller replacement on odd years. Remove intake hose from pump inlet and drain water in hose.
  • Drain raw water strainer. Open ball valve to drain hose.
  • Drain raw water from transmission cooler. Spray engine, fittings etc... with WD-40.
  • Drain water from muffler.
  • Vacuum water from bilge.
