Visiting Cuttyhunk is to experience a tiny village far removed from typical modern american towns. It is like visiting remote a village in Alaskan or Canadian bush country. There are no cars and trucks, ATVs are the main mode of transportation. Everything must come by boat or seaplane. Cuttyhunk Pond provides a great stop over for sailors cruising up Buzzards Bay or Vineyard Sound. A day is all that's needed to see the village and enjoy a great beach by the entrance to the pond. Cuttyhunk is famous for striped bass fishing. Fisherman fly in by seaplane to fish with the small charter fleet located there.
We were there on an overcast and hazy day as evident in the pictures below, but I cant wait to get back there on a bright sunny day to view the Elizabeth Island Chain from the west end.

Stiped bass is king on Cuttyhunk! Look at the wind vane on the church.
What the locals refer to as a "Cuttyhunk Cadillac" coming down a paved trail. There are no cars on Cuttyhunk and these small utility vehicles are the main mode of transportation.
